2019/2020

Going into the 2020 Baja season, our team decided to redesign our entire suspension geometry for better drive characteristics and easier component manufacture. As team captain and previous suspension lead, I was the most obvious candidate for the job. No one on the team had ever designed suspension geometry.

I learned how to make suspension point sketches in SolidWorks and referenced all parameters to a master text document. I then developed a method for automatically transfering the points in SolidWorks to a new coordinate system and into Lotus Shark, where I could analyze the drive characteristics of the vehicle. After hundreds of iterations, and months of reading chassis dynamics literature, I completed the new points with improved drive characteristics and easier component manufacture. The entire process took three months, which aligned with our aggressive summer design schedule. In parallel, I was also responsible for leading all team operations and coordinating the design of the entire vehicle.
